loving life in the big city!

i am loving new york city. fact. it has been a rush of activity and transitions and explorations and i LOVE it. NY1 is certainly a news station unlike lovely 11news in provo. it is constantly bustling and there are so many people who work there i doubt i will ever get all the names down. but it's awesome that they are giving me real work to do and trusting me with real jobs. like yesterday when i went all the way to queens and sat through criminal court to wait for this crazy man to be arraigned. you don't know how scary people actually are until you sit through criminal court in queens, nyc. for reals.

i haven't taken as many pictures as i thought i would. mostly because my camera is broken. =( sad emoticon. i am hoping the birthday gods bless me with a new camera for my birthday on may 17th! (hint hint garry and natasha)....

speaking of birthdays: happy birthday to my BFFL: daniellers ycmat (ic-mat). i ate a 550 calorie cupcake in her honor tonight. freaking state law requiring calories to be posted=me feeling depressed about my life.

here are how the past 3 days of my big city adventure went down:

i got to see my father one more time and have lunch with my aunts because NY1 literally kept me for an hour on my first day! all i had to do was sign papers and take a hideous picture for my ID badge. holler. i miss my family!
Photobucket

i experienced serpendipity...which exists in las vegas, i guess, although i have never been. they have frozen hot chocolate! it's magical..purely magical.
Photobucket

the cute couple of CBS evening news! just kidding jenne....(she is married)...not funny anna.

the other cute couple:

bloomingdales. i wish it was christmas so i could act like buddy the elf. bloomingdales is festive!
Photobucket

arrin! she was my roommate, and now she is interning in NYC. so she met up with me where i work....at the ritzy chelsea market!
Photobucket

max brenner's chocolate restaurant. yup...also exists in vegas. never been. fail. it is a restaurant of chocolate. HELLO HEAVEN! except they have too much romantic mood lighting, making it impossible to read the menu. hence we used the candles to help us out with that.
Photobucket
yummy hazelnut shakes.
Photobucket

the subway never ceases to surprise me with what the crazies do.
Photobucket

first saturday in NYC! times square with these cute girls. love the colors:

i love this place.
Photobucket

Photobucket

we found the temple! too bad moroni got cut out. i promise he is there. i love how the temple blends right into the city.
Photobucket

after a tiring day of fun and walking, i am sitting here blogging and had a revelation. i am living in NYC, which is awesome. i NEVER thought i would be interning here for a major news station with some of the coolest people ever. i have visited here so many times, and absolutely loved it...in fact, when i was younger i used to tell people i wanted to live here because my dad and i took a trip here and i loved it so much. but never ever did i think i would be spending a semester here. even a few months ago...i was debating not coming. obviously i decided to come.

and i am SO very glad i am here, very glad indeed.

oh my holy harry potter.

i got goosebumps the size of texas when i watched this.
my very last HP preview.
i remember when they cast harry potter and when the first one came out and when every one after that came out.
i remember getting each book at midnight.
and then when #7 came out, it was ok cause the movie still hadn't come out.
and then part 1 came out and all my dreams came true when they dragged it out to 2 parts.
and now the last one is here.
i still don't accept that it's over.
but this movie will be amazing.
expect me there at midnight dressed up with a mug of butterbeer in one hand a my homemade wand in the other.

I (really) do love NY.

so i am here. yes...i am here in new york city sitting in the international house at columbia university surrounded by students that are incredibly....you guessed it...international. this places is crazy cool. i swear everyone here is from some random part of the world, except for all us pasty white utah mormons that are really REALLY bringing down the cultural-ness of it all. whatevs. i am living in a tiny tiny tiny tiny room on the second floor with a bunch of girls (and boys). weird! is that against the honor code? DEFINITELY. i love it here.

new york is a beautiful place, and although i have been here numerous times before, this visit is different. it is longer, more in-depth, and the first time i have been here by myself for work.

if today was anything like this whole spring semester will be then i am really excited. i just said bye to my dad, which is sad, because i loved having him here, but it's ok because i feel like this experience is really starting now. i start work at NY1 tomorrow...and let me tell you.....i am going to love it. but i will get to that in a little...first of all....the other things i did on my first official day here.

we saw 30 rock, and i looked for kenneth to give me a tour. but alas, he was nowhere to be found.
Photobucket

i suggested they turn the ice skating rink into a swimming pool. it is HOT AND HUMID here.
Photobucket

todayshowtodayshow I LOVE THE TODAY SHOW. it is filmed here. slash i will host this show one day.
Photobucket

count on my dad to find an awesome garden located on old train tracks. two of his favorite things. filled with hipsters and hippies sunbathing and enjoying nature. good times.

and THIS is why i am excited for work now. i work right above a huuuge anthropologie. in chelsea market, which happens to be swanky and ritzy and earthy and awesome. and i love it. food network, oxygen, and MLB.com also have studios there.
Photobucket

excitement!
Photobucket

that is times square behind me. holler.
Photobucket

a NYC sunset from the balcony of my dad's hotel.

Photobucket

and now for the most random moment of my LIFE. my dad sees former NYC mayor Ed Koch walking around chelsea market and gets all excited because apparently that is a big deal. he was the mayor before rudy guiliani. and he is a big deal around here, i guess. then my dad says hi to him because we were riding in the same elevator up to the NY1 studios together. and then he strikes up a conversation with him about oscar goodman. and then says i need a picture with him. love it! so here is my random picture with the random old man, but i really do kind of love it.
Photobucket

it's true...new york new york is a wonderful place! can't wait for the next 7 weeks.

highlights of the week.

most of the weeks in my life are plain and uneventful...maybe even boring.
.....but this past week was definitely not one of those weeks. nope. it was action-packed and exciting to the point where i thought it might kill me. can you die from being happy and busy?? i don't think so or i would not actually be here right now.

this past week was my last week as a junior at BYU. WEIRD RIGHT!?!? so weird. i had exams....final projects...goodbyes..family in town...and of course my camera to document all the moments. (and when i say mine i mean danielle's camera and my dad's camera because mine is broken).

anyways. here are the highlights:
