homes means nevada to ME...always has...always will......

i adore our state song, it makes me SO proud to be a nevadan. i love this state and love that my family has lived in it for so long. i miss it everyday of my life..especially now when it is cooooold in utah and warm and happy in nevada. 3 weeks and i will be home. oh yeaaaa.

here are the lyrics to home means nevada: sing with me. i will probably be singing this all day long.

Way out in the land of the setting sun,
Where the wind blows wild and free,
There's a lovely spot, just the only one
That means home sweet home to me.
If you follow the old Kit Carson trail,
Until desert meets the hills,
Oh you certainly will agree with me,
It's the place of a thousand thrills.

Home means Nevada
Home means the hills,
Home means the sage and the pine.
Out by the Truckee, silvery rills,
Out where the sun always shines,
Here is the land which I love the best,
Fairer than all I can see.
Deep in the heart of the golden west
Home means Nevada to me.

Whenever the sun at the close of day,
Colors all the western sky,
Oh my heart returns to the desert grey
And the mountains tow'ring high.
Where the moon beams play in shadowed glen,
With the spotted fawn and doe,
All the live long night until morning light,
Is the loveliest place I know.

Home means Nevada
Home means the hills,
Home means the sage and the pines.
Out by the Truckee's silvery rills,
Out where the sun always shines,
There is the land that I love the best,
Fairer than all I can see.
Right in the heart of the golden west
Home means Nevada to me.

in the spirit of NEVADA pride. vote for harry reid. if you care AT ALL about the future of our will not make the mistake of not voting. we need reid.

i am sorry i have been bad at posting my stories from channel 11 news at noon on my blog. i told like all my family and friends i would do it and i have been lame and have not. fail.

here is my story from this week:

i am really enjoying reporting, and feel like i get better at it each week that goes by. i am excited to be doing this for a real one day. well i guess this IS for real....i heard from someone we get 10,000 viewers each day. that seems like A LOT but they seemed like they knew what they were talking about.

also....i never thought i would be on the same channel as "arthur" and "zoom." dreams DO come true...

big shout out and virtual high-five to my good friend matt lowe for helping me out with this interview. he did a rockin' job...i believe.

pumpkin FAIL

last week for FHE we carved pumpkins. we had a fail......

can you tell what it is??? (hint: we were trying to be righteous.)

here is the answer:

uncanny right??? whatevs. we lost at the contest at our ward party last week. but we still had fun. so it's ok.

this last week me, leslie, and reesa completed the 10 day beauty challenge, a challenge given by the BYU women's center encouraging all women to love their bodies...inside and outside. we were inspired to do it when Nie Nie came to talk to BYU a few weeks ago. check out this blog post for details on that!

each day had a different challenge. leslie and i posted the challenges on our mirror so we would remember. some challenges included:

-journal-ing and reading scriptures about how God views women
-doing a new kind of exercise
-not weighing yourself
-getting ready on the inside by meditation (a personal favorite of mine and leslies)
-not comparing yourself

the last day of the challenge we all got together in the wilk and were told to place stickers on our bodies with a fault we believe we have written on them. we placed the stickers wherever that fault was. then, one by one, we took the dots off while listening to some inspirational things. it was kind of dramatic...and really cool. we left all our dots on the floor. mission accomplished.

basically...i needed all of these things. it was really uplifting. i love going to byu because we get to do cool things like this that make you feel good about yourself and help you count your blessings.

and you get a free TRUE byu fashion. : )

cute shirts:
bye dots.
they are beautiful....and....

you are all bbbbeeeeaaaauuuutttiiiiffuuullll!!!!

on friday i had something reallll scary happen to me. if you know me AT ALL, you know that i don't love driving. i am pretty good at it, i just don't really like to do it. part of that stems from a bad accident i had my senior year, (shudder), but mostly it's just part of who i am. i would rather not drive when given the option.

but sometimes it's recently when i have to drive all over utah valley to cover various news stories for channel 11. on friday i was filming for my story monday. me and my london loves reesa tirrell and sarah shepherd went to payson for a family harvest festival on this cute little farm. we had so much fun. it was atumun-ish and perfect.

on the drive home, everything was going great. this was only my second time driving on the busy freeway...and my first driving it without my mom/sister/dad with me coaching me and encouraging me. it's kind of become a joke with my friends and family that i can't drive on the freeway...but it's not really a joke...i decided i need to learn so that i can function in society.

anyways....we are going down the freeway between payson and spanish fork, which, if you live in utah, you know that it's under construction...meaning there are cones lining the road on both sides. we were going along and i heard a pop. i though it was my huge camera falling over in the back. then a light came on that looked like this:

i decided that was probably a BAD sign. right as reesa was looking up in the manuel what exactly that sign meant, my car started shaking. and it freaked me out. i started hypervenelating. and shaking almost as badly as the car, haha. it kept getting worse. reesa and sarah were so good at keeping calm and keeping me going, i don't know what i would have done without them there. there was nowhere to pull off or exit. we HAD to keep going. the shaking was getting worse and the car smelt bad and was smoking. at this point i knew a tire had blown out.

we finally saw a huge sign for an emergency pull-off in a thousand feet. when we got there, i didn't realize it was just a little indent in the road since there was nowhere to pull off, but it was so small i didn't realize it was there and i passed right by it. ooppppps. then i really started crying and freaking out. the road was crowded and we were stopping cause the tire was completely off. the car wasn't really going at all. i was in the middle of a busy lane of the freeway and i just had to STOP. basically....i had no choice.

i called 9-1-1. overreaction?? maybe...but you trying sitting in the middle of the freeway with just your hazard lights on and see what numbers your fingers press on your cell phone. they connected me with highway patrol who calmed me down and told me to stay put as they hurried there.

needless to say we were all pretty nervous, but all of a sudden, a gold mini-van pulled in front of us and stopped. out of all the THOUSANDS of people in the state of utah who had passed by us, they stopped. it was a this huge black guy and tiny little asian lady. they started talking to us and told us they felt like they should stop and help us out, and told us they'd fix our tire in no time.

they pulled off my spare tire off the back of the Rav4 and got to work. meanwhile sarah, reesa, and i are just standing there thanking them endlessly. they were so fast. they worked hard and by the time they were done, the highway patrol was just barely getting there. the kind strangers were SO nice to us, and told us we were good to go. they highway patrol checked out tire and told us they weren't mad at me for blocking traffic for a while lane, haha, i literally apologized to them like 493028 times. the nice strangers drove off. we never even got their names or anything.

we made it home safely. nothing bad happened. this whole experience was a blessing. normally when tires blow, the car spins or sometimes even flips. that didn't happen. i had 2 good friends with me who helped me out and coached me through driving on it. if i do say so myself, i handled it like a champ. the strangers were angels, and when we drove away sarah said a prayer aloud thanking heavenly father for protecting us and i just started bawling my face off. he is so aware of us and our needs and guided me through that situation and protected me. he sent those nice people to help me. they really were angels, they came and went and i won't get to properly thank them till the next life, but i hope they know that they made me want to be better and serve more. i am so grateful everything was ok.....and that i said my prayers that morning.

here is the tire: the highway patrol said they had never seen such a bad blowout on a little car. of happened to anna hayes.

Nie Nie

so..........i stalk blogs sometimes.
(all the time).
i stalk one called "Nie Nie Dialogues."

and so does every other mormon girl/ every blog stalker in america. nie nie is an amazing woman who has inspired me. she was in a terrible plane crash in 2008 and survived. now she is an inspiration to woman all over. if you want to hear her whole story and see how incredible she really is, please watch this:

nie nie came to BYU campus to talk to THOUSANDS of people about recapturing beauty. BYU is doing a big campaign to find inner beauty, and this was the kick-off. i am covering the story for KBYU. i wanted to do this story as soon as i heard nie nie was coming. i got to sit on the front row and film it.

can you find me?

nie nie put that picture with me in it on her blog. SERIOUSLY THE COOLEST THING EVER. i never though i'd be on her blog. but there is a fail portion to this story. i am definitely looking down texting and not paying attention. in my defense, the picture was taken way before it actually started. but

whatever. i still feel cool. the evening was incredible. so many people, and such a strong spirit. and i will post my completed story once it is all done.

i hope everyone had a great conference weekend. i sure did. i am so lucky to be a member of this church.

this past saturday, my dear london friends reesa, laura, matt (not london friend), arrin, leslie roommate, and i did the DIRTY DASH.

the beginning: clean and shiny!

it was SO so dirty. it was a 10k. (6.2 miles). never ever have i done a race that is that long. we did great. we did the race in an hour and ten minutes. it was awesome. and hard. seriously. it was all up and down, with freezing water spraying all over. OH and the course was full of obstacles!!! here is a map of the course:

i would have to say that the best obstacle was the huge walls we had to barrel over. so intense. THERE WAS SO MUCH MUD. my team, "jersey shore/dirty jersey" (named so because we all got retro fabulous boy jerseys to wear during the race), definitely started to just dunk each other in mud and smear as much dirt as we could all over every one's face.

the end of the race included a huge pool filled with mud. matt dunked me over in a dramatic fashion for no apparent reason. please creep on my facebook to watch the video his sister made of the deed. hilarious.

overall, the race was SO MUCH FUN. dirty, long, hard, rewarding, and all for a good cause. i recommend the dirty dash to everyone!!
